AD on-site with Spirit of Adventure

It’s a very exciting time for us at AD. One of our projects is almost at completion – which in the cruise design industry, is always a long time coming, but most definitely worth the wait.

We have been working closely with Saga Cruises for over 3 years to provide a comprehensive architectural design service, including overall design direction, and project support. Now we are on-site for the final few months before the delivery of Spirit of Adventure. She is the new-build sister ship to Spirit of Discovery, which was delivered in 2019, and notably, “a sister not a twin”, which has been remarked by Saga Cruises.

Saga Cruises MD, Nigel Banks, has said, ‘the interior design for Spirit of Adventure is bold and striking. Yet again we have risen to the challenge set us by our guests. They have told us that life for them is not ‘beige’ and they want to see something that showcases the best of British contemporary design.’ Enter AD Associates.

So where are we now?

We’ve got a team of three site-support specialists currently providing interior architectural fit-out and FF&E inspection on Spirit of Adventure. Working as representatives of Saga Cruises and being embedded in the site team, our scope includes overseeing the interior architectural fit-out of designated back and front-of-house areas at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, as well as other locations on route to the UK.

The service we provide involves working hand-in-hand with Saga’s project management team, on-site inspection team, yard and the fit-out sub-contractors and other suppliers. During this time, we report to Saga’s lead site representative to carry out quality control inspections, oversee the installation of manufactured products, and ensure they meet the high-quality standards expected for a project of this calibre.

Why is on-site support important?

It allows us to provide extra capacity and bandwidth for the site team as and when required. Notably, having designed all of the spaces on board we can provide the most effective and efficient guidance and support.

By reviewing and signing-off interior fit-out works on-site, we enable the yard and fit-out contractor to deliver the project to the highest level of professional competency and industry standards. And of course, in line with our issued Interior Design documentation, and agreed on workshop drawings and specifications. In addition, our experience on-site also enables us to foresee and log any outstanding issues which need to be followed up with the builder.

Here to serve.

Past clients have seen the benefit that on-site support adds to the final result. We endeavour to add value at every stage of the project. This approach is in line with our client promise made at the beginning of the project, and ensures; what we say will be designed will be delivered – or we find a workable solution.

If you are working on a project, whether on land or sea, that could benefit from on-site support services, or you would like more detail into the scope of works we can provide, please get in touch with David McCarthy.
