Mandara Spa

Norwegian Joy
Brief & Overview

This project centres around revitalising Norwegian Joy, Mandara Spa. Committed to elevating the onboard experience for all guests, our client strategically chose to add a rejuvenating Thermal Suite to provide guests with an increased wellness and relaxation offering.

The Thermal Suite seamlessly integrates with the preexisting Mandara Spa. Our goal for holistic well-being also led to a brand-new Relaxation Suite, which introduces innovative healthcare treatments, including the renowned IV Drip therapy.

Every square foot was designed to meet the unique requirements of each space – fresh aesthetics and maximising the space’s potential, going from what once was a Virtual Reality venue to embracing the opportunity for guests to enjoy awe-inspiring panoramic sea views from the spa.

The transformation was considered holistically, from design to operations and logistics. The Relaxation Lounge now graces the area formerly occupied by smaller thermal spa suites, enhancing the overall Mandara Spa experience. Throughout this project, we aimed to ensure a cohesive, impressive, and functional design that enhances Norwegian Joy and delivers an unforgettable experience for guests.

The inspiration

Essences of tranquillity, harmony, and rejuvenation inspired our design philosophy for  Norwegian Joy’s spa spaces. We drew from the natural world, bringing elements of earth, water, and air into our design to create a calming atmosphere for guests. The proposed artwork represents these elements.

We played with contrast to achieve bright, light, and airy spaces and juxtaposed our darker central areas allocated for the water treatments as a nod to dark, earthy, cave-like experiences. Thoughtfully integrated greenery, enriched with verdant shades, earthy metallic materials, and white marble, seamlessly creates an organic and serene environment.

Feature materials

We artfully introduced an array of tiling, mosaics, and natural stone in interesting combinations, featuring contrasting tones and textures. In the Thermal Suite, the flooring is designed to be elegantly understated, blending neutral colours into a subtly sophisticated pattern. Our attention to the venue’s location on the vessel ensures aesthetic appeal and practical maintenance considerations.

We’ve incorporated contemporary metallic materials into the walls and ceilings to elevate the overall aesthetic. This design marries matte and glossy finishes, complemented by metallic ceilings that interact effortlessly with carefully positioned lighting.

Design highlights

The Thermal Suite features a wet area with various walk-through thermal and pressure shower experiences comprising four grand temperature features: a luxurious sauna, steam room, rejuvenating salt room, and refreshing ice room. These are accompanied by a plunge pool and a generously sized whirlpool. The wet zone has a fully operational set of seven high-quality, carefully selected experience showers.

The second design highlight is the expansive relaxation enclave within the Thermal Suite. The goal was for the sanctuary to exude serenity, graced by a collection of meticulously crafted designer heat loungers that exemplify unmatched craftsmanship and uncompromising quality.

In addition, we’ve introduced ‘Four Senses’ loungers, which combine warmth, gentle vibrations, sounds, scents and colour variations to support relaxation. Complementing these are a selection of versatile day beds, available in round and rectangular shapes tailored to cater to couples and individual guests.
