MSC World Europa
Brand positioning

The future of cruising is here – MSC Cruises’ trail-blazing new flagship, MSC World Europa.

The long-awaited new ship, delivered in 2022,  spans 22 decks and is 47 metres wide, with 2,626 cabins, boasting more than 40,000m2 of public space.

This ultramodern ‘urban metropolis at sea’ is the future of cruising. It will offer a veritable world of experiences pushing the boundaries of what is possible at sea – setting a new standard for the cruise industry.

We were honoured to design eight public spaces onboard this innovative vessel, all of which were food & beverage venues.

Here’s a brief overview of four of our spaces onboard.

La Pescaderia

A unique venue for guests to savour an ‘ocean-to-table’ experience dedicated to providing fresh, sustainably sourced seafood. Guests ‘self-select’ from an array of fish and shellfish. Expertly prepared by the skilled chef, dishes are accompanied by a tempting selection of meze, freshly baked bread, sides, condiments and an expertly chosen wine list.

Set amongst the iconic ‘Portofino Promenade,’ this supplementary dining venue offers a ‘street-food’ alternative for guests to enjoy a taste of the sea on the go!

The original brief called for ‘Mykonos meets the Hamptons’. Influenced by the iconic architecture of the islands with whitewashed walls and tones of indigo blue, with soft, warm weather timbers, the interiors are imagined to create a welcoming and informal atmosphere.

We included various textural elements such as macramé woven screens, a nod to rustic-style traditional rope binding techniques, handprinted tiles, and woven rope demountable ceiling elements. The lighting elements represent crab pots to emphasise notions of the seaside. Guests can enjoy a sheltered outdoor seating area for alfresco dining and views out to sea.

Fizz Champagne Bar

This venue oozes ‘classic elegance’. Enjoy a decadent glass (or bottle) of Champagne accompanied by caviar and other fine delicacies. Evenings in port make the adjoining Lanai deck the perfect al-fresco space or enjoy private service at one of the crushed ice tables.

The design offers an elevated champagne experience with an open façade that offers views out to the outer decks and vista beyond, creating a light, fresh atmosphere that is welcoming to all.

The sit-at bar occupies a central position in the venue, serving champagne and seafood platters, with the lava stone-fronted bar, brass inlay detail and marble effect top. This sets the tone for the palette throughout the venue.

The seafoam jewel tones take inspiration from the vistas beyond, and bespoke chandeliers are designed to be reminiscent of champagne bubbles. The space leads out to the exterior Lanai deck, an elegant outdoor seating space reminiscent of an orangery.

Mixology Cocktail Bar

The “It Bar” for cool and edgy cocktails, with expert mixologists creating handcrafted concoctions from a low-level bar to allow theatrical viewing. The bar top is zinc, the front verde terrazzo with a cold metal inlay.

Above the bar, we had a row of high-end alcohol glass flasks and decanters to reflect the light. This space offers an outdoor terrace for guests to enjoy pre-and post-meal beverages while watching the waves go by under the stars, and there’s a dedicated Liquor Corner for tasting favourite top-shelf spirits.

TV Studio & Broadcasting Room

The TV Studio & Broadcasting Room is an intimate yet buzzy entertainment venue at the vessel’s heart. It was designed to host various entertainment programmes, broadcast ship channels, record shows, and interviews. It has a full-service bar and includes viewing windows into the Broadcast Studio.

The studio features a rich, sumptuous interior which plays with organic geometry taking inspiration from soundwave loops, offering a unique character and continuing throughout the interior. Deep aubergine banquettes and atmospheric lighting set the scene for an evening of entertainment.

The design extends to the internal promenade and introduces the broadcast room, a capsule-like structure that is a prominent feature extending over the atrium. We worked in detail with the technical and entertainment teams to support the installation and coordination of the entertainment systems, from sound to lighting.
